§ Mrs. RumboldRegulations made under the Food Safety Act 1990 are intended to allow a person buying food or being served with food to decide whether or not to consume irradiated foods. This poses difficulties in a prison environment. We have therefore no plans for the central procurement of irradiated foods for use in prisons. For minor items purchased locally, prisons are being advised to avoid irradiated foods.
