HC Deb 17 December 1990 vol 183 cc50-1W
Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what efforts he has made to ascertain the type and amount of aid needed in Cambodia for reconstruction and development; and when such aid will be forthcoming.

Mrs. Chalker

At their meeting in Paris from 23 to 26 November the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the co-chairman of the Paris conference on Cambodia and the UN Secretary General's representative agreed a draft settlement document, which, inter alia, contains a declaration on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Cambodia. This sets out how Cambodian reconstruction and development needs will be addressed in the context of a comprehensive political settlement. Britain played its full part in preparing the document and is ready to join other donors to consider Cambodia's aid priorities, initially at a reconvened Paris conference. In the meantime we are supporting the work of non-governmental organisations and UN agencies in Cambodia.
