HL Deb 13 December 1990 vol 524 cc37-8WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many employers from overseas have come to Britain with domestics since 1980 and how many domestic workers have been admitted as a result; how many employers have left the country since 1980 taking their domestics with them; how many domestic workers have remained in Britain for other reasons; and how many domestic workers have become eligible since 1980 for settlement in Britain after four years of continuous residence.

Earl Ferrers

Information on the admission of overseas employers with domestic workers, and on subsequent embarkations, is not available. During the period 1st January 1985 to 30th June 1990 a total of about 260 domestic workers were accepted for settlement in the United Kingdom after four years continuous residence: information for 1980–84 is not available.
