§ Mr. CryerTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce legislation to replace the system of Crown notices to cover health and safety at work at Crown premises with a regime that incorporates all Crown premises under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988.
§ Mr. ForthGenerally the Crown is required to comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and the relevant statutory provisions, which include the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988. However, the Crown is immune from prosecution, and therefore the arrangements for enforcement are earned out through an alternative system of Crown notices. There are no plans to introduce legislation to change this position.
