To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what was the level of pre-registration for the sale of the 12 regional electricity companies.

Mr. Wakeham

By midnight on 14 November 1990 approximately 7.3 million applications to register had been received by the electricity share information office.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what is his estimate of the percentage of shares in each of the 12 regional electricity companies held by residents of the home region of each company;

(2) what is his most up-to-date estimate of the numbers of applicants to be shareholders in the 12 regional electricity companies resident in the franchise area served by each company.
