HC Deb 04 December 1990 vol 182 c101W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security whether people with Alzheimer's disease are accepted as being terminally ill when assessing income support rates for people in nursing homes.

Miss Widdecombe

The level of income support payable depends on the type of care the nursing home is providing for the claimant. The adjudication officer must be satisfied that the home is recognised by the registration authority as able to provide terminal care and that the resident is receiving such care before the higher limit can apply.
