HL Deb 30 April 1990 vol 518 cc889-90WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many planning applications have been received in respect of land contained within each of the World Heritage sites in the United Kingdom since their declaration, how many have been approved, refused or are the subject of appeals against refusal, and how many of those appeals have been allowed, and rejected, and how many are pending.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh):

This informal ion, in so far as it relates to cases before my right honourable friend the Secretary of State, can only be provided at disproportionate cost. Information on planning applications received by local planning authorities is not held by the department.

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What instructions or advice have been given to the relevant planning authorities on how to exercise their functions in and beside World Heritage sites.

Lord Hesketh:

None. But we will consider whether we can help local planning authorities with an explanatory passage on the World Heritage Convention when we next revise the relevant Department of the Environment circular (8/87).

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the World Heritage sites now declared in the United Kingdom, and the planning authorities responsible for each, and the dates on which those authorities were notified by them of the declaration of the site.

Lord Hesketh:
