To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what criteria apply to decisions on the replacement of office chairs in his Department.

Office chairs are replaced when they are broken, worn out or no longer meet modern standards or requirements.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the standard useful life of office chairs used by civil servants.

A number of factors will determine the life of an office chair, including the frequency of use, changing user requirements, the introduction of information technology, and improvement in product design and manufacture.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the average age of the office chairs in his Department replaced with new chairs in the final quarter of the financial year 1989–90.
