Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he will call for a report from Her Majesty's ambassador in Santiago on the death of British editor Jonathon Moyle in his hotel room in Santiago on 28 or 29 March; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he is satisfied that the Chilean authorities are fully investigating the death in his hotel room in Santiago on 28 or 29 March, of Jonathon Moyle; and if he will make a statement.

Her Majesty's embassy at Santiago is in contact with the examining magistrate, and keeps the consular department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office fully informed of developments in the investigation into Mr. Moyle's death on 31 March 1990. The consular department is in contact with Mr. Moyle's parents and former employers.

A Chilean magistrate gave approval on 2 April 1990 for a full investigation into the death of Mr. Moyle. The Chilean authorities are pursuing their investigation vigorously and the results are expected shortly.
