Mr. Cryer

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will make a statement on the prosecutions to be undertaken for breach of regulations prohibiting the sale of arms with reference to the seized gun components destined for Iraq.

Mr. Ryder

[holding answer 23 April 1990.] One person has been charged in connection with these export consignments. Customs and Excise is continuing to make inquiries to see whether firms or other individuals have committed offences in the United Kingdom. The disclosure of any further information than this may prejudice any subsequent proceedings.
