HC Deb 30 April 1990 vol 171 c454W
Mr. Allan Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent discussions he has had with Strathclyde regional council concerning the timetable for the Ayr road route (A77); and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 25 April 1990]: My right hon. and learned Friend has had no recent discussions with Strathclyde regional council concerning the timetable for the Ayr road route.

Parts of Strathclyde regional council's section of the Ayr road route were affected by a legal challenge by Glasgow district council in October 1989. Prior to that challenge, the main works associated with this section of the road were due to start in 1991 and it was hoped that the trunk road section would follow on in 1992 subject to the availability of funds and priorities at that time. Advance works for the region's section of the road, in areas not affected by the legal challenge, have already started.

Mr. Allan Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has on whether Strathclyde regional council will proceed with construction of the Ayr road route (A77) after 3 May.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 25 April 1990]: My right hon. and learned Friend has had no communication from Strathclyde regional council on the matter of whether the council intends to proceed with the construction of the Ayr road route after 3 May.
