To ask the Secretary of State for Wales on what grounds he turned down the Development Board for Rural Wales proposals to assist the financing of the proposed integrated meat processing plant at Three Cocks, near Brecon.

Since the Development Board for Rural Wales withdrew its application in respect of these proposals, my Department has taken no formal view of this particular scheme.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he is taking to ensure that an integrated meat processing plant is established in south Powys, pursuant to the requirements of the single European market.

The question of the establishment of a meat processing plant in any particular location is entitely a matter for the commercial judgment of the company concerned.
