To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what assumptions as to the number of people qualifying for radiation exposure payments and the rates of such payments the estimated cost of the proposed new clause 8 to the Social Security Bill given by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State on 28 March,Official Report, columns 636-37, was based.

For the purposes of the estimate, it was assumed that 1,000 people might be eligible under the terms of the proposed new clause and that payments would be equivalent to the maximum allowable rates of industrial injuries benefits.
