To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what labelling requirements will apply in respect of products containing Simplesse; and if he will make a statement.

Products containing Simplesse would be subject to the Food Labelling Regulations 1984. The regulations require a precise product description to ensure that the purchaser is fully informed about the true nature of the food, and can distinguish between similar foods. The presence of Simplesse would also need to be indicated in the list of ingredients.

In addition, under section 6 of the Food Act 1984, the labelling should not be false or misleading.
