To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the current number of convicted and unconvicted prisoners intended to be held in Pentonville prison; what is the current number of prisoners held in Pentonville prison; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

The certified normal accommodation (CNA) of HMP Pentonville is 6411. A programme of major refurbishment currently in hand there will increase its CNA by more than 200 places over the next two years. The population of the prison on 30 March was 941 (including 194 unconvicted).
