To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much public money he proposes to spend through the Tyneside urban development corporation on the Newcastle quayside development scheme, in Newcastle upon Tyne, East constituency.

No final decision has yet been reached on the amount of public money to be invested in this scheme.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he has taken to ensure that(a) Mr. Godfrey Bradman and the Rosehaugh property group and (b) Stanley Millar Builders are able to meet their financial commitments through Newcastle Quayside Developments to the Tyneside urban development corporation's proposed scheme in Newcastle upon Tyne, East for which they are preferred developer.

No decision has been taken on the scheme for the east quayside area of Newcastle upon Tyne, which is being progressed by the Tyne and Wear development corporation. It is the responsibility of the development corporation to satisfy itself with regard to the financial standing of any companies with which it enters into agreements.
