To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the skill centres to be sold and the purchasers in each case; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 3 April 1990]: The following list includes details placed in the Vote Office on 13 February concerning the successful bids by Astra Training Services Ltd and Merseyside Education Training Enterprise Ltd, together with information provided in answers to my right hon. Friend the Member for Hertfordshire, North (Mr. Stewart) (Official Report, 28 February 1990, column 249), and my hon. Friends the Members for Barrow and Furness (Mr. Franks) (Official Report, 7 March 1990, column 672) and for Hexham (Mr. Amos) (Official Report, 13 March 1990, column 216) concerning the successful bids by Mr. J. James, a consortium headed by Mr. Christopher Lakin, and Training Business Ltd. It lists skill centres, and other units within the Skills Training Agency, which are to be sold and the successful bidder in each case. There will be no more sales of training businesses.
