HC Deb 04 April 1990 vol 170 cc652-3W
Mr. Burns

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what financial support is being given by his Department to the Family Planning Association and Brook Advisory Centre.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

Section 64 grants to both organisations are being renewed for the three-years ending 31 March 1993. The Family Planning Association will receive £165,000 in 1990–91, £130,000 in 1991–92 and £100,000 in 1992–93 from the Department of Health towards their headquarters administrative expenditure and regional activities. Financial support will also be provided by the health departments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The equivalent grant for the last three-year period was £130,000 per annum.

For the period 1990–1993 the grant to Brook will be maintained at the existing level of £45,000 per annum. This funding goes towards its headquarters administrative 145 costs, including the education and information activities designed to encourage responsible attitudes to personal relationships among young people under 25 and the co-ordination of the local Brook centres working directly with young people. In addition to the core grant a further award of £20,000 per annum for each of three years is being made to fund a new development officer post.

The conditions attaching to these organisations' grants, in relation to expenditure, activities and liaison with Government Departments, will continue to apply.
