HC Deb 03 April 1990 vol 170 c571W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in theOfficial Report for each of the last five years by health authority (a) the total number of people who are HIV positive as the result of contaminated blood transfusions and (b) the number of haemophiliacs who are HIV positive as the result of contaminated blood transfusions.

Mr. Grist

No. For reasons of confidentiality, the AIDS (Control) Act 1987 requires health authorities to report cases numbering between one and nine (inclusive) as "less than 10". In Wales, the number of those infected by contaminated blood transfusion is small and to publish in the form requested could lead to the identification of individuals.
