§ Mr. TrippierHer Majesty's inspectorate of pollution has investigated the suggestion that radioactive waste was disposed of in Rainham marshes in the early 1960s. Any disposals before the Radioactive Substances Act 1960 came into force on 1 December 1963 would not have required authorisation under the Act. There is no record of any subsequent authorised disposals.
