Rents into Mortgages Scheme

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any information of the number of tenants who may wish to participate in his rents into mortages scheme.

Since my announcement of the outline of the scheme earlier this year, there have been several hundred inquiries from people interested in purchasing under the scheme. We expect up to 5,000 participants during the three-year pilot scheme announced today.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a further statement on the operation of his proposed rents into mortgages scheme.

My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland today announced the issue by Scottish Homes of an explanatory leaflet which gives details of the rents to mortgages scheme and advises tenants how to apply. Copies of this leaflet have been placed in the Libraries of the House of Lords and of the House of Commons.
