To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement concerning the proposed construction of a western bypass for the city of Leicester.

Mr. Atkins

The public inquiry into the orders for this scheme was held in May 1988. The inspector's report was received on 1 February. The Secretaries of State for the Environment and Transport are considering it and hope to announce their decision as soon as possible.
