To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the names, dates and circumstances of all deaths of persons in the custody of the Metropolitan police since 1979.

Information about the deaths of persons in custody of the Metropolitan police, including the date, place and cause of death, and the circumstances surrounding the death, has been published, since 1980, in the annual report of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. Information prior to 1980 is not available. To provide the names of the persons concerned could cause distress to their families.
