§ Mr. PatchettTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy to include a code of conduct for the care of the elderly for residential care in private homes as part of the White Paper on care in the community.
§ Mr. FreemanGeneral guidance on the running of these homes is contained in "Home Life" a code of practice for30W residential care, endorsed by the Secretaries of State for Social Services and for Wales. This guidance remains valid.
Additionally, we have recently put in hand a three-year programme of development projects aimed at demonstrating how the quality of life for people in residential care can be improved.
