To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the working of the Transport Act 1985.

Mr. Portillo

I have no plans to amend the 1985 Act. Bus deregulation has encouraged a greater diversity of services, with more bus miles being provided by more operators at lower cost to local authorities.
