§ Mr. John PattenProgress is good. Eleven local safer cities projects are now operating and five more should be in place by next January. Resulting action to reduce crime, and fear of crime, encompasses well-tried physical security and other more innovative measures. Examples are better fittings in homes of the elderly and in business premises; improved lighting in car parks and streets; personal safety classes; and new activity for young people at risk of offending.
