(3) what is his estimate of the total numbers of persons currently served by lead water piping in domestic property.

Mr. Sillars

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is able to estimate the total cost of eliminating lead piping from all of Scotland's water supplies to property.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The number of properties that still have lead pipes connecting them to public water supply mains is not know accurately. However, the cost of replacing such pipes has been broadly estimated at £300 million. There are no lead water mains in public water supply systems.

Information on private supplies is not held centrally.
