Mr. Archie Hamilton

The information is not available in the form requested. In the case of crimes reported to the Ministry of Defence police, statistics are published in annex E to the annual report to the chief constable, a copy of which is available in the Library of the House. However, similar information is not available in respect of those crimes reported to and investigated by Home Department police forces or the Services police.

Bar coding is being gradually introduced into the Ministry of Defence as a means of obtaining data but is not a security measure in itself. The Department is mindful of the need for adequate security measures and these are regularly appraised and updated as necessary. It is not, however, our policy to publicise these measures.
