The Ministry of Defence has long recognised the importance of policies which respect the environment whilst meeting operational needs. I would in particular refer the hon. Members to the reply my hon. Friend the then Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces gave on 9 May at column418 to my hon. Friend the Member for Sheffield, Hallam (Mr. Patnick).
