HL Deb 24 October 1989 vol 511 c1358WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Central Electricity Generating Board has asked their advice on their proposal, along with West German and South Korean companies, to extract uranium ore and process it, in open cast mines, in the permafrost in the Canadian arctic tundra, and if so what advice they have proffered?

Viscount Ullswater

The Central Electricity Generating Board has not consulted Her Majesty's Government over its participation in a possible uranium mine development in the North West territories of Canada; nor is there any obligation on it to do so.
