To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many general practitioners were at 1 October 1987 and 1988 in contract with health boards to provide contraceptive services to their patients.

The number of general practitioners in contract with health boards to provide contraceptive services to their patients was 3,273 on 1 October 1987 and 3,328 on 1 October 1988.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many patients were registered with general practitioners for National Health Service contraception services for 1987 and 1988 in Scotland.

The number of women registered with general practitioners for National Health Service contraception services was 272,598 for 1987 and 276,232 for 1988.
