To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people will be eligible for community charge rebate.

Community charge benefit is significantly more generous than rate rebates and will go to an estimated 1 million extra people. Our most recent estimate is that 1 in 4 of those liable to the community charge will receive community charge benefit. The numbers will of course be affected by the community charge transitional relief scheme but no estimates are yet available.
