To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his assessment of the change in the numbers of self-employed in the next 12 months.

Mr. Nicholls

The Department does not make forward projections of the self-employed.

Between March 1981 and March 1989 self-employment was estimated to increase by 985,000, and now stands at 3,079,000.
