HC Deb 19 October 1989 vol 158 cc221-2W
193. Mr. Irvine

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security whether he has any further plans for reforming the structure of national insurance contributions.

194. Mr. Yeo

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will make a statement on the implementation of the reform of national insurance.

Mr. Scott

The changes in the structure of national insurance contributions, announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget Statement, came into effect on Thursday 5 October 1989. Some 19 million employees will pay less in contributions as a result of these reforms. We have no current plans for further reform of the contributions system.
