§ Mr. Wray
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is for each year since 1979(a) the tonnage capacity of the British merchant fleet and (b) the number of the British merchant ships.

§ Mr. McLoughlin
The number and tonnage of trading vessels registered in the United Kingdom, Crown dependencies and dependent territories at 1 July in each year since 1979 is as follow:
from the Contingencies Fund. As savings have occurred in class VIII, 2, there will be no increase in the public expenditure planning total.
