To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps his Department is taking to encourage those currently in other professions to train as teachers.

The principal elements in our programme directed towards mature entrants are the new licensed teacher arrangements, the funding of special courses for graduates making a career change, the provision of "taster" courses, and the preparation of publicity material specifically directed at mature entrants.
