To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the progress of local management schemes for schools.

Mr. MacGregor

I am pleased to be able to announce that all local education authorities have submitted their LMS schemes. This is an impressive achievement. About 10 schemes were submitted at least a month early and we have already begun announcing our approval for the first of these to come into force next April.
