To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many discretionary life sentence prisoners have been given knockbacks by the parole board beyond their judicial tariff.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many discretionary life sentence prisoners have been released by the tariff date set by the judiciary.

None of the discretionary life sentence prisoners whose tariffs have been set on the advice of the judiciary following the Handscomb judgment in March 1987 has yet been released.

Since the divisional court judgmeni in the Handscomb case on 2 March 1987, the Parole Board has considered 368 cases of discretionary life sentence prisoners.
