HL Deb 11 October 1989 vol 511 c553WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their attitude to the Swedish Government's proposal at the United Nations for a new protocol on the use of mines at sea.

The Minister of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Trefgarne)

We looked carefully at the draft protocol put forward by Sweden to the United Nations Disarmament Commission in May, but concluded that existing arrangements, notably the Hague Convention Relative to the Laying of Automatic Submarine Contact Mines of 1907, remained sufficient.
