To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has any evidence that the Soviet Union has reduced its production of modern armoured fighting vehicles.

Soviet officials have said that there has been a significant reduction in activity at the Soviet Union's tank plants during the course of this year.

We believe that total tank production will be lower than in previous years but are unable to quantify the actual figures.
