§ Sir John FarrTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ensure that members of the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, in their inquiry into the conviction of the Birmingham Six, are given full access to information about those west midlands police force members who at the time were members of the recently disbanded regional crime squad.
§ Mr. WaddingtonI understand that the Legal Affairs Committee has not yet decided whether to conduct such an inquiry, and if so, what its terms of reference should be. We believe it would be wholly inappropriate for the European Parliament to inquire into the convictions of the Birmingham Six, which are within national competence.
