Mr. Jopling

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what he estimates will be the latest cost of constructing the new hospital in Kendal;

(2) when he expects the new hospital in Kendal to receive its first patients.

I understand that development of the new Westmorland General hospital, Kendal is proceeding to time and cost and the latest estimate of the works cost of the project (excluding fees and equipment) is £15.6 million. The first patient use is expected to be in April 1991.
