HC Deb 16 November 1989 vol 160 c443W
Mr. Loyden

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security for what reasons he set the permitted period which applies to trainees after 12 months of employment training at four weeks; and what is the likely permitted period for YTS trainees, including those who have employee status.

Mr. Scott

The period of four weeks during which a person, who has undergone extended training for a particular kind of employment, will be regarded as having good cause for refusing employment different from that for which he has trained takes account of the fact that some ex-trainees will be unable to start work immediately. The appropriate permitted period for all unemployed claimants is determined by the adjudication officer. The decision will take account of the factors listed in the Social Security (Unemployment, Sickness and Invalidity Benefit) Amendment No. 2 Regulations 1989. (SI 1989 No. 1324.)
