Member for Ealing, North of 7 November, what steps he intends to take to ensure that the objective of adequate welfare standards are achieved during journeys of horses and ponies for export; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacleanThe negotiations on the draft EC regulation on the protection of animals during transport will cover areas such as vehicle standards, feeding and watering arrangements, proper separation and other transport conditions. In all these areas we will seek to ensure that the welfare of the animals is fully protected and that the requirements are properly enforced throughout the Community.
