HC Deb 16 November 1989 vol 160 cc386-7W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement further to his statement at the Royal Society on 14 November that lay people have a role to play in genetic research.

Mr. Jackson

My right hon. Friend referred, in his address at the Royal Society, to the fundamental ethical issues raised by genetic research. He commented that this is an area where lay people as well as scientists, theologians, philosophers and politicians have an important role to play in bringing the benefit of a varied and balanced range of views.
