To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Edinburgh, South of 7 November,Official Report, column 525, if he will seek the consent of parties to the publication of the results of the survey of data on private sector pay and Civil Service comparisons.

Member for Edinburgh, South of 7 November, Official Report, column 525, what information he has concerning the publication of confidential information relating to a survey of data on private sector pay levels and Civil Service comparisons in any FDA bulletin to its members; and what action he intends to take to establish whether a breach of confidence has occurred.

[holding answer 14 November 1989]: The interpretation of the survey information was one of the issues discussed with all the unions concerned in the negotiation of the recent pay settlement for grades 5 to 7.
