HC Deb 15 November 1989 vol 160 c247W
Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a further statement on his policy regarding the provision of low-cost rented accommodation and the measures which he has already taken in this respect.

Mr. Chope

The Government have taken a variety of measures to encourage the supply of rented housing, including the deregulation of private letting, the encouragement of private investment in housing associations and a major increase in public funding through the Housing Corporation for new rented housing development by housing associations. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Autumn Statement today gives details of our plans for further investment in low-cost rented housing over the next three years.
