HL Deb 15 November 1989 vol 512 cc1393-4WA
Lord Carter

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of the funds of Food From Britain is now being allocated in support of activities for the benefit of primary agricultural producers, as against that which is allocated to promoting the interests of major food manufacturing companies.

Baroness Trumpington

Food From Britain's remit is to improve the marketing of food, agricultural and horticultural produce and fish (other than sea fish) which is produced or processed in the UK. The nature of FFB's activities is such that it is not possible to assess the proportion of total resources specifically devoted to primary producers as against food manufacturers. However, it is not unreasonable to assume that, as primary agricultural produce is the main ingredient of manufactured food stuffs, the bulk of FFB's activities are of benefit to primary producers.
