HL Deb 15 November 1989 vol 512 cc1392-3WA
Lord Carter

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their current policy towards the development of co-operatives of farmers and growers.

Baroness Trumpington

Co-operation among farmers and growers can provide useful benefits in the more rational use of equipment and other resources, and the Government currently offer grants under the Agricultural and Horticultural Co-operation Scheme towards the costs of setting up marketing co-operatives and of certain capital expenditure. In addition, Food from Britain is charged by the Government with the duty to organise, promote, encourage, develop and co-ordinate co-operation in agriculture and horticulture.
