§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyStatistics on the number of children placed on child protection registers by reason of neglect are available in "Survey of Children Placed on Child Protection Registers Year Ending 31 March 1988 England", copies of which are available in the Library. We have no plans to instigate a report on how cases of child neglect are being dealt with. However, the social services inspectorate has a programme of inspections of child protection services within individual local authorities and these reports are published.
